Linux-Apps: HakuNeko — Manga & Anime Downloader

HakuNeko is a cross-platform downloader for manga and anime from various websites. HakuNeko was made to help users who download media for circumstances that requires offline usage. The philosophy is ad-hoc consumption, get it when you want to read/watch it. It is not meant to be a mass downloader to stock up thousands of chapters that are just collected and will probably never be read.

HakuNeko is the manga downloader I used to download mangas for my Huawei T1-701u tablet. Since having an unsupported android 4.4.2, there are limited supported android apps available. There might be other manga readers and downloaders but I prefer not to use them to keep the storage minimum.

For how to use this app, please go to the link below:

Some connectors would be slower to load so the chapters downloaded would be slower. So far I am using mangabat and mangahub connectors. Some manga chapters have download issues with Mangahub but Mangabat has no such issue so far.

I will list down simple steps I take to download manga:

  1. Select a website (connector), like mangabat.
  2. Sync the manga list.
  3. Enter the manga name you want to download. Wait for the manga chapters to load.
  4. Click download to download the manga chapters.
  5. Toggle the display to show the download manga chapters process.

The thing that I noticed is that the hard disk activities impact the speed of chapters download as well. So if there are disk activities such as copying or moving files, the download speed will be slower.

After downloading the manga chapters, you can copy them into the tablet and use a picture or manga reader to view the chapters. You may also read the manga from HakuNeko but I prefer to read them from portable tablets instead.

NOTE: Just found out Mangahub site, even though it has a vast collection of manga and fast downloads, it has been having outages on and off. But once it is online and working, so far there is no issue.

There are also the special characters found in some downloaded chapters, such as '*', '@', '/', ':' or '?' which cause issues when copying to the tablet. I use Double Commander to identify which directory and manually rename or replace these characters to allow normal copying to the tablet.

MX Linux Fluxbox Review - For Low-End Laptops

MX Linux logo from https://linuxiac.com/mx-linux/      Recently I have successfully installed MX Linux Fluxbox on my Acer Aspire One 725 (AO725) netbook. I initially wanted to install Bodhi Linux onto my AO725 netbook, but failed. Finally I tried MX Linux Fluxbox, after trying Anti-X linux and some other ultra-lightweight Linux. MX Linux Fluxbox is suppose to be a lightweight Linux for low-powered laptops such as netbooks or very old laptops. Upon bootup, it only takes 337MB of RAM (438MB for Thinkpad X200) before you load any apps. With 4GB RAM, it is still a lot of RAM for for most apps, like the browser but the CPU utilization is close to 100% after running a Chromium broswer and DeadBeef music player. Things likely be slow... after this point from my observation but I have not tried to do anything more than those common things that I usually need to do.      Since I managed to install MX Linux Fluxbox, I initially did not bother to use the A...

Linux-DesktopEnv: RAM Usage Comparison For Sparky Linux LxQT and Xfce and Q40S MATE Desktop Environment

Today I did a test on RAM usage for the following desktop environments (DE) using VirtualBox to determine their RAM usage: MATE DE with Q4OS 4.7 Sparky Linux 6.2 LXQt Sparky Linux 6.2 Xfce      The main reason is for me to decide which desktop environment I want to use for my Lenovo Thinkpad X200. I have tried other desktop environments: Enlightenment with SparkyLinux MininumGUI  Trinity with Q4OS Bodhi Linux with a customized Enlightenment DE      The main issue with Enlightenment with SparkyLinux is that it does not work well with autologin. Sometimes it gets kicked out and you have to login again. I suspect is the windows manager issue but I cannot find the solution for this. Trinity has an issue with using jpg wallpaper so it is a turn-off as I don't want default wallpapers. The customized Enlightenment desktop in Bodhi Linux has limited themes but is still acceptable but I want to look for the best for my Thinkpad X200.     ...
