For a person like me who likes to play with OSes (Windows, Linux, and Unix), virtualization technology is my best friend as I can install multiple OS into a single laptop and play with them. VirtualBox is a free desktop virtualization application that I usually use. Even beating VMware player and Microsoft VirtualPC by features and usability.
The virtualization space was first made popular by VMware Workstation and many similar products pop up after its popularity and usefulness, especially for software developers and server deployment.
The above is an example of running Voyager Linux within the VirtualBox application (Guest Virtual Machine (VM)). The main host is running Linux Mint 20.3 Xfce. As you can see, there are other different Linux OSes, that I am also playing with and it does not require me to have multiple physical hardware to play with different OSes. The limitation is the hardware on the host machine, in this example, my laptop on the number of CPUs, amount of memory (RAM), and hard disk space available for the virtual machines.
You need to create an empty VM and define the installation media (ISO) to allow you to install the OS that you want to use. Only when you finished installing the OS you are able to use the new OS, similar to what you do for a new OS on any hardware.
