Elementary OS is an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution. Some of its more interesting features include a custom desktop environment called Pantheon and many custom apps including Photos, Music, Videos, Calendar, Terminal, Files, and more. It also comes with some familiar apps like the Epiphany web browser and a fork of Geary mail.— Distrowatch.com
Elementary OS is a desktop Linux distribution aimed at MacOS users. The user interface is very similar to MacOS. It encourages you to pay for the installation image but you can put $0 to download the ISO file. The installation is similar to modern Linux installation so there are no issues here. The only difference is that you require to create your user credentials after installing the OS. Not a big deal but requires some fiddling to enable auto-login compared to other Linux desktops which are more straightforward.
It comes with its own customized applications rather than using open-sourced applications and some of the applications you need to pay for it. For cheapo people like me, paying for applications makes me uncomfortable. The AppCenter from Elementary OS has limited applications listed. Most of my favorite applications are not found. Lucky for me it is based on Ubuntu so using the "apt" command to install my favorite muon package manager and then use it to install KDE Plasma Discover software Center solved my install and uninstall application problems. Average users may be stuck with the default applications or need help to install new applications not listed in AppCenter.
For anyone who wants a well-supported macOS Linux distribution and wants a macOS look, this is a good choice to consider.
